5 Tips for Moving in the Summer

5 Tips for Moving in the Summer

Summer is the ideal time for moving. The kids are out of school, everyone is at the beach, and the highways are as clear as they are ever going to get. If you want to move over the summer, we can help in more ways than one. As part of our commitment to you, we have provided a few handy tips to help make your summer move as stress-free as possible.

  1. The Early Bird Gets the Worm

The sun’s rays are most intense between 11 AM and 3 PM. Temperatures climb up to a boiling point, and people who are outside at this time are vulnerable to ultraviolet rays. Moving is a laborious process, and you do not want to pack, lift, and move all your boxes when it is most difficult. It is a good idea to get everything done before noon. Holding off until later in the day is also a good idea.

  1. Don’t Let Anything Melt with You

Scented candles are a wonderful way to make your room smell nice, and they are a terrible way to ruin all of the other items in a box. Air circulation in a moving van is poor, so ensure that anything that can melt is air conditioned, or at least isolated. DVDs and CDs may warp and wither under the intense heat, so make sure to keep these cool as well.

  1. Everybody’s Moving on the Weekend

Generally, weekends and days at the end of the month are the most popular times for a move. Moving companies are very busy, so you would do yourself quite a few favors by scheduling your move for the middle of the week. Also, make sure to check in with your moving company before the move, to ensure that they are keeping track of everything.

  1. Planning for the Dog Days of Summer

You need to make plans for yourself, your family, and also your pets. Cats, dogs, and any other pets are at risk of overheating during a summer move. Making sure they do not get out or otherwise interrupting your move is also vital for the process. We recommend letting a friend watch them for a day, or getting a kennel or cage for them. Whatever you do, make sure they are cool and have enough water to keep them happy.

  1. Turn on Utilities before You Move

Picture this: you have baked in the hot sun all day, corralling kids and pets alike while crossing a vast distance. Then you get to your new house, shining and glimmering and absolutely broiling because there is no AC yet. If that does not appeal to you, ensure that everything is up and operational before you get there. Remember, you are going to have to unload and put all your stuff inside once you arrive, and there is no need for you to sweat your guts out.

If you have any questions about moving any time of the year, do not hesitate to call us. Our professional, courteous, and qualified staff are happy to assist you with any moving related issues you might have. The situation is always improving with Joe’s Moving.

4 Things to Do in Miami When Visiting on Business

Things to do in Miami while on Business Trips

Miami is famous for its tourism and its white sandy beaches. Yet there is more to the Magic City; the Miami Metropolitan Area has a gross metropolitan product of more than $257 billion. Businesses from all over the world have branches or headquarters in Miami, and naturally, all of these businesses bring in a multitude of business travelers. While you are down here, there are lots of things to do. We have compiled a list of our 4 favorites.

1.Golfing

Florida is famous for its golfing, and the reputation is more than well-earned. There are dozens of golf courses in the tri-county area. Novices and seasoned vets alike delight at the fresh greenery and gorgeous views of South Florida. Different groups can find different price points, and a range of courses means that every golfer plays to their handicap.

Golfing is perfect for business. Its slow pace means you can chat with your partners, and make deals away from the office. Even if you are not going with a group, you can still find a course. Golfing is the perfect way to unwind after a busy week in the office.

2. Catch a Game

Miami loves its sports. Down here, you can find five professional sports teams, of all the major sports. A good number of games are played at night, which provides you the perfect chance to decompress after a busy day. If you are a fan of college athletics, the University of Miami and Florida International University also have games throughout the year.

Watching sports is a great way to network. There is a friendly rivalry component to it when a visitor comes from a different city. When someone is visiting from a different country, they might find the Miami sports scene comforting, as jai alai, soccer, and motor racing can be found in the city.

3.Eat Foreign Food

Miami is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the United States, if not the whole world. If you want to try Peruvian ceviche, you can find that. If you want to try traditional Cuban food, you can find that. If you want to try Turkish kebab, you can find that. Leave the pizza at home.

Meal times present natural times to do business. You can discuss the day’s events with a nice glass of wine, and fill your belly after a hard day’s work. When people from Miami want to show that they like someone, they give them food. So if a partner down here is offering to buy you dinner, take it as a good sign.

4.Hit the Beach

Everyone knew this one was coming. Miami and the surrounding area has some of the nicest beaches in the entire world. It seems as if every day in Miami is summer, and the sun shines year-round. It is a rare day when the sky is not totally blue.

All of the other ones have a background of business, but this one is just for you. Relax. After a day of working, there is nowhere better in the world than Miami Beach.  Work on your tan with a beer in your hand, and let the sweet sound of the waves crash into you.

What to Do in the Summer with Your Kids in Miami

Looking fr things to do with your kids in Miami?

Miami is full of life all year round, but its vitality shines forth during the summer especially. Citizens of the Magic City have a reputation for being family-oriented, and that reputation is well-earned. There is no limit to what you can do with your kids in Miami, but we have tried to narrow it down to just four.

The Beach

This one is easy. The whole area has gorgeous white sandy beaches, and every summer they are absolutely packed. Not all beaches are family-friendly, though. Pretty wide swaths of South Beach either allow or overlook topless sunbathing, and a few beaches around the city have a sexy vibe. Hollywood Beach has a more relaxing Florida sort of feel. While you will have to pay to park, it does not cost a dime to lounge in the sand while your kids splash around in the waves or build sandcastles. One of the biggest advantages of this beach is that it is far less crowded than other beaches in the area. There is also a cute little boardwalk and promenade so you can get lemonades for the whole family.

The Frost Science Museum

The Frost Science Museum opened in May of 2017, and people are already raving about it. Located downtown, the building dominates its environment and the hearts and minds of kids everywhere. The museum has rotating exhibits so you might not see the same exhibit twice. With bright and colorful exhibits for the kids and captivating shows for adults, the whole family can join in on the fun. Tickets are going to run an adult $28, and a child $20, plus you will have to pay for parking. The art museum is right next door. More mature kids might appreciate the two back to back.

The Everglades

Maybe you could forgive us for this one, but it is not quite in Miami proper. A quick jaunt outside the city will lead you straight into the Everglades. It is one of the last untouched places in the US, and the inherent wildness of the place permeates every square foot of the swamp. We recommend taking an airboat tour, which can last from 30 minutes up to several hours. Guides will show you flora and fauna, unlike anything you have seen before. Pretty birds fly overhead and insects sing a natural symphony, providing the backdrop when you explore the area. You can even see alligators and crocodiles up close and personal, but don’t worry; the boat will keep you safe.

Miami Children’s Museum

The Miami Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization. This one is more for the younger kids. Exhibits, such as the Port of Miami, All About Art, and the Music Makers Studio, sets the young ones’ curiosities and imaginations alight in a safe and engaging way. The Mommy and Me classes and the birthday parties regularly hosted get everyone involved. General admission is $20, but in-state residents pay less. Over the summer, this place really comes alive, and your toddler might meet their best friend here.

This is just a taste of what you can do with your kids down here in South Florida. If you are moving to Miami, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We are an experienced, professional, and qualified company.

Storage Tips for Long Distance Moving

Storage Tips for Long Distance Moving- Miami Movers

We here at Joe’s Moving understand that moving is vast distances is quite difficult, so we have provided some guidelines to help get you started with the move. Very few people know the ins and outs of long distance moving, and knowing this will give you a huge leg up in a stressful time in your life. It is important to recognize that going long ways is considerably different from going short ways, but you can do a few things to make sure that you are in the best possible place.

1.Organization is key

You are going to want to transition to life in your new city as soon as possible, which means you have to know where everything is. In turn, this means that it is wise to label all of your boxes as clearly as you can. There are a few different ways you can do this, and you should do this in a way that is best for you. For example, you can put your pots, pans, and other items you will need as soon as you arrive in a box marked Day One. Or, you could mark various boxes with the rooms they go in. The most popular iteration of this tip is marking what is in all the packings.

2. Nothing you can eat or drink

This one may seem a little bit odd. After all, you have your pots and pans with you, so it may seem intuitive to bring along your food. However, there are many things that can go wrong. For instance, furniture can fall over and nail the box with beans in it, crushing and opening the can and causing you lentils to leak out. In some cases, food can attract vermin to your belongings, which is not good for anyone. Liquids are less problematic, but are rarely worth the risk. If you do bring them, ensure that the lids are properly secured.

3. You are in it for the long haul

It is easy to miss the forest for all the trees as you take your possessions across the country. As experienced movers, we recommend you get high-quality boxes that can deal with the wear and tear that occurs on the road. Your possessions are going to move around, so make sure that all of your boxes are filled to the brim, and that nothing is loose.

4. Be prepared

As you pack and prepare yourself for a long journey, you should take care of your things, but you should also take care of yourself. Make sure to eat a hearty meal the day before, and get all the rest you need. There are certain items you will need during and immediately after the trip, and you should bring these items with you in a backpack. If you need to call someone when you arrive, bring a charger, and if you think your kids will make a mess in the back seat, bring paper towels. Do an oil check, acquire jumper cables, check your wiper blades, and give yourself some peace of mind.

Joe’s Moving has a tremendous amount of experience with helping people move. If you want to go ready, set, done, give us a call and we will make the whole process easy. At Joe’s Moving, we will have you grooving.

How To Relocate Your Business Without Losing Your Mind

Moving your business to Miami. Relocation tips

Running a business can be incredibly stressful, as many know well. Moving your business adds stress, and often takes more time and effort than many initial estimates. This is not some herculean task, however, and a little bit of planning and preparation often makes the move less of a hassle. Here are 5 tips to make the move as seamless as humanly possiblDonate Office

1. Equipment Which You Do Not Need

Do you have any old PCs, copiers, or telephones lying around? There is no need to bring obsolescent resources with you, especially because you are going to be paying for it. We recommend donating your old office material since you will get a tax break if you donate to a registered charity, and it will help out those with greater need.

2. Get Organized

There is an old Chinese aphorism which says: “If you chase two rabbits, both will escape.” When you are moving your business, you are chasing one hundred rabbits. That being said, you can do yourself a massive favor by getting organized. If you prepare for the move, it will yield tremendous dividends when it comes to stress and ease of mind. Making a checklist and compiling all of the tasks which needs to be done will give you a great head start, and will let you know what has already been done and what remains.

3. Start Moving Early

Now that you have exactly what you need and are organized, it is time to start the move. Everyone vastly underestimates how long it will take to move, and business owner’s estimates are often wrong by a factor of several days. Packing equipment and inventory that are not used on a regular basis will make things run more smoothly down the road. Hiring a professional mover can greatly expedite the process, especially an experienced. We, Joe’s Moving, are located in Miami, and can make the move quick and smooth.

4. Label Your Boxes

So you find yourself in your new office. The whole world seems bright and sunny, and employee morale has never been higher. You are sure that this move was a good one, and are more optimistic than you have ever been before. Now Rachel in marketing wants to show you a cool new print add, but needs a color printer. You frantically search through all of your boxes, knowing that you have it and not wanting to incur the absurd cost of buying a new ink cartridge. Cardboard boxes get strewn all over the office, as you try in vain to find what you need. This is a nightmare and one that can be easily avoided if you label what is in every box. Numbering them helps too, as you will know the exact quantity of boxes that you have. When you put a box on the truck, you can simply mark it off your checklist and not worry about it until you move.

5.Get Insurance

As all business owners know, you should do your best to expect the unexpected. Movers are safe drivers, but accidents still do happen. A car wreck may prove catastrophic to your business, and you need to be prepared should the worst befall you.

These are just a few tips to help get you going. If you need any additional assistance, consult with a professional mover. We here at Joe’s Moving can answer any question you have, and make the transition to the Miami area as smooth as silk. Don’t hesitate to contact us.

5 Benefits of Living in Miami

Check out these tips if you are considering moving to Miami.

The Magic City is really hard to pin down. Miami is a wonderfully dynamic city that is constantly growing and reasserting its place in American culture and business, and there is always something to do. Narrowing down a list to just five was difficult. Still, we did it, so here are the five biggest benefits of living in Miami.

  1. The Weather

In the Calusa language, Miami means ‘sweet water’. The beautiful blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean are sweet, but the sky and the sand and the lush greenery are all sweet too, or even sweeter. While people who live further north shiver through the winter months, Miamians enjoy the outdoors throughout the year. Let your jacket hang in your closet while you hit the beach, even in the winter. The whole world flocks to Miami to enjoy the weather and the beaches during the summer, but you could enjoy it all year round. If you want a fresh orange or grapefruit, you don’t have to go to a store; you can just pluck one from a tree in your yard.

  1. Business and Job Opportunities

Miami has never stopped growing. Due to its port and its vibrancy, Miami is a massive hub for all sorts of businesses. 5 companies in the Fortune 500 have their headquarters in the Miami metropolitan area, and many more have a branch here. The city’s business impact can be felt all over the world, as Miami is a natural bridge to Latin America and other parts of the globe. Finance and real estate are particularly big in South Florida, but Miami is very welcoming for any type of business.

  1. Lifestyle

A New York minute is about 30 seconds, but Miamians have all the time they need. Business deals get done on the beach and on the golf course. Even walking around downtown, you will never see anyone who looks stressed out, but the speed of life is not so slow that nothing ever gets accomplished. Despite its reputation, Miami is a family-oriented city due to its culture, and people of all ages are proud to call South Florida their home.

  1. The International Scene

If you live in another part of the country, it is not very likely to meet someone from Israel, Colombia, Russia or Brazil. If you go out and explore Miami’s buzzing nightlife, you can meet people from these countries in a single night. Miami is a delightfully multi-cultural city, and the Great American Melting Pot is never more present than it is in the Magic City. You can try new foods, practice new languages, and learn more about the world by staying in the same place.

  1. Landscape

Florida is mostly known for its beaches, which are immensely beautiful. There is a lot more to discover about South Florida, and all of it is waiting for someone adventurous and bold. The Everglades give you a delightful look into a pristine natural environment, where alligators and exotic birds roam freely. The theme parks of Orlando or the excitement of Tampa are only short jaunts away, with tons to explore in between. It is impossible to get bored in Florida.
